Hank Jones died on Sunday night at the age of 91.
Jones, the ‘grand old man of the jazz piano’, was already performing at the age of thirteen. He played with legends like Coleman Hawking, Ella Fitzergerald, Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Lester Young and Tommy Flanagan. As pianist and orchestra leader he was working on the famous Broadwaymusical ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’. Last year Jones received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Shortly after that he played at the Hague Jazz festival.
