The third edition of The Hague Jazz on the 23rd and 24th of May has been a tremendous success. Almost 24.000 people have visited the festival at the World Forum in The Hague. Highlights were the performances of Nile Rodgers & Chic, JazzKamikaze, McCoy Tyner & Joe Lovano, the young Dutch diva Wende Snijders, Hiromi, Luisito, Barbara Hendricks, the emotional farewell concert of Miriam Makeba, Caroline Henderson and Sean Jones.
The young festival The Hague Jazz has earned a spot on the international jazz agenda. The first festival day (Friday 23rd of May) was visited by 10,800 people, the second day (Saturday 24th of May) was visited by over 12.800 people. Before the festival, the maximum of visitors had been set on 25.000, so we may speak of a nearly sold out festival.
The success of this edition of The Hague Jazz is proof that the Dutch music lover has definitely embraced the festival as a prominent event, and that risk-full programming with many debutants is a hit among a large audience. Also from mainly the United States and Germany, jazz lovers know to find the festival. Remarkable is that more than forty representatives of record-labels have attended the festival. We are honoured with the presence of the directors of the leading jazz labels Heads Up and Telarc from the United States.
Next year the festival will take place on 22nd and 23rd of May at the World Forum. The possibility of adding a third day to the festival has been taken into consideration. The formula of the festival, a crafty balance between public favourites, big jazz names, young Dutch talent and international artists that make their debut in the Netherlands, will be continued. The Warming Up- with this year free concerts by the scorching torch singer on fire Hans Teeuwen, Wicked Jazz Sounds, JazzKamikaze, Gare Du Nord, and others – has grown into a one day event of importance (attracting 1.000’s of visitors) and will be back next year on the 20th of May.
